HiNAIA Responsible AI Statement

HiNAIA Education Technology, Inc. (“HiNAIA”) builds AI enabled educational tools to support students and educators with a particular focus on accessibility, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and students with Specific Learning Disabilities, ADHD and other learning differences. This Responsible AI Statement explains how we design, deploy, and govern AI within the HiNAIA platform. 

1. Our Purpose 

HiNAIA is an AI-powered adaptive learning platform that delivers real-time, personalized instruction for students with Specific Learning Disabilities, ADHD, and other learning differences. We embed evidence-based supports, reduce educator workload, and strengthen IEP and Section 504 compliance. 

 

2. Human Centered Design and Human Oversight 

HiNAIA’s AI features are designed to assist, support, and complement educators. 

  • Educators and authorized staff remain responsible for instructional decisions. 

  • AI outputs are suggestions and supports, not directives. 

3. Student Safety and Age-Appropriate Protections 

HiNAIA supports students, including minors, and applies heightened safeguards to protect student safety, privacy, and educational rights in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements, including FERPA, COPPA, IDEA, and district data governance policies. 

3.1 Developmentally Appropriate Educational Design 

HiNAIA designs student experiences to be developmentally appropriate, instructionally relevant, and purpose-built for K–12 educational settings. AI-supported features are constrained to approved educational use cases and are not designed for open-ended or non-instructional interaction. 

3.2 Authorized Access and Role-Based Controls (FERPA) 

Access to student data and system functionality is governed by district-defined authorization processes and role-based permissions. Only authorized teachers, administrators, and designated school personnel may access student records and interactions, consistent with FERPA’s official exception and district access control policies. 

3.3 Visibility, Oversight, and Auditability (District Procurement & Compliance) 

HiNAIA maintains technical and procedural guardrails that ensure visibility, traceability, and auditability of all student-related data accessed or generated within the system. 

  • Authorized educators and administrators have the ability to view student interactions, instructional outputs, and system usage. 

  • Administrative oversight supports instructional supervision and special education compliance. 

  • Data access and system activity are logged to support district governance. 

3.4 Student Data Protection and Privacy (FERPA & COPPA) 

HiNAIA acts as a school service provider and processes student data solely on behalf of and under the direction of the educational agency. 

  • Student data is used only to deliver educational services and support instruction. 

  • HiNAIA does not sell student data or use it for targeted advertising. 

  • Data collection, use, and retention practices align with FERPA and COPPA, including protections for students under age 13. 

3.5 Special Education Safeguards  

HiNAIA is designed to support, not replace, educator judgment and legally required decision-making under IDEA and Section 504. 

  • AI-supported tools assist with instructional delivery and accommodations. 

  • HiNAIA does not make autonomous decisions regarding eligibility, placement, services, or IEP and Section 504 determinations. 

  • Educators retain full authority and responsibility for instructional and compliance decisions. 

3.6 Risk Mitigation and Safe Use 

HiNAIA implements safeguards to reduce the risk of harmful content, inappropriate interactions, or misuse, including: 

  • Controlled instructional contexts 

  • Role-based access and permissions 

  • Content and interaction constraints aligned to educational use 

  • Ongoing monitoring and governance practices 

4. Privacy and Data Minimization 

HiNAIA follows privacy by design principles. 

  • We collect and process data only as needed to deliver and improve the platform. 

  • Student data is processed at the direction of institutional customers and under applicable agreements. 

  • We do not sell student data or personal data. 

  • We do not use student data to build advertising profiles. 

5. AI Training and Use of Customer Data 

HiNAIA’s AI functionality may rely on services that support instructional adaptation. HiNAIA applies strict purpose-limitation and data-minimization controls consistent with K–12 privacy and procurement requirements. 

5.1 Purpose Limitation 

Student Data is processed solely to deliver the educational services requested by the customer within the customer’s authorized environment and under the direction of the educational agency. 

5.2 No Training on Student Data 

HiNAIA does not use student data to train, fine-tune, or improve generalized, shared, or public AI models. Student Data is not incorporated into cross-customer datasets or retained for model training purposes. 

 

5.3 Use of AI Service Providers 

Where HiNAIA engages third-party service providers to support AI functionality: 

  • Such providers act solely as sub processors 

  • Use of Student Data is contractually restricted to service delivery only 

  • Student Data may not be used by sub processors for independent purposes, including AI model training 

5.4 Regulatory Alignment 

These practices are designed to align with FERPA, COPPA, applicable state student privacy laws, and district contractual requirements governing AI and data use. 

6. Fairness, Inclusion, and Accessibility 

HiNAIA is designed to support equitable access to learning and inclusive instructional experiences. 

  • Product design aligns with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles 

  • AI-supported features are evaluated for accessibility and usability across diverse learners, learning modalities, and assistive technologies 

  • HiNAIA seeks to reduce bias and avoid assumptions related to ability, identity, language, or background 

  • AI is intended to support instructional equity, not replace educator judgment or individualized decision-making. 

7. Transparency and Explainability 

HiNAIA is committed to transparency appropriate to educational contexts and user roles. 

  • We disclose where AI is used within the platform and the intended purpose of AI-supported features 

  • Guidance is provided to help educators and administrators understand outputs, limitations, and appropriate use 

  • Material changes to AI features that impact data use, functionality, or platform behavior are communicated to customers 

8. Reliability, Quality, and Limitations 

AI-supported features may produce incorrect, incomplete, or misleading outputs. HiNAIA takes steps to reduce these risks but does not represent AI outputs as infallible. 

  • Features are tested and evaluated prior to release and monitored post-deployment 

  • Guardrails are implemented to reduce non-instructional outputs 

  • HiNAIA does not provide medical, psychological, or legal advice. 

  • HiNAIA does not diagnose disabilities and does not replace psychoeducational evaluations, eligibility determinations, or professional judgment under IDEA or Section 504. 

9. Security and Abuse Prevention 

HiNAIA implements administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect data and reduce misuse, including: 

  • Role-based access controls and least-privilege principles 

  • Logging and monitoring to detect abnormal or unauthorized activity 

  • Secure development practices and management 

  • Restrictions to reduce non-educational use of AI features 

  • Security practices are aligned with district expectations and contractual security obligations 

10. Governance and Accountability 

Responsible AI use requires ongoing oversight and internal governance. 

  • HiNAIA maintains internal review processes for AI feature development, testing, and release 

  • AI features are evaluated for privacy, safety, accessibility, and instructional integrity 

  • Decisions, known limitations, and mitigation measures are documented 

11. Customer Controls and Feedback 

  • Institutional customers retain control over how AI is used within their environments 

  • Customers may configure access by role, grade level, or age group 

  • HiNAIA provides channels for feedback, issue reporting, and continuous improvement 

  • HiNAIA operates as a service provider under customer direction and does not override district governance, policies, or instructional authority.
